SDMBA Trail Workers Rehabilitate Trails at Calavera PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, February 28th, 73 volunteers showed up to work on the trail at Calavera. That's 292 more hours for SDMBA and San Diego area trails.  This was a collaborative effort between SDMBA and the California department of Fish and Game.  A rutted old access road that has become a primary artery in the area was rehabilitated to improve water runoff and reduce erosion.  A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who attended!
All tools were present including 3 brand new Spartaci. All were used. A good showing by the trail boss crew ensured that every group had a leader. Thanks to Tom Sommer for leading the group that busted the berm which will result in a majority of the water being directed away from the road. Tom wrangled the group like a pro and his leadership skills could only have been enhanced if he'd been on horseback with a jaw full of chew and a 12 gauge slung across his shoulder.

Thanks to our sponsors, Zoic, Prana and North of the Border.

Another "diamond in the rough," Calavera is a prime example of how great an area could be with some trail planning and follow through. Only with community participation will SDMBA be able to make the progress needed at the site.  We are looking for a Carlsbad resident to take on the lead role as advocate and liaison for Calavera.  Please contact Erik for more information.
