Clip a card in your spokes and fluff the rainbow wig …Tour de Fat is back for its 11th season! New Belgium Brewing’s traveling celebration of all things bicycle rolls through 13 cities this year, raising money and sharing bike love. Tour de Fat is coming to San Diego's Balboa Park for it's 2nd year on October 2, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Tour de Fat is free to participants and all ages, but beer(21+) and merchandise proceeds from the San Diego stop go to support grassroots bicycle advocacy for SDMBA & the San Diego Bicycle Coalition. Since its inception, the philanthropic cycling circus has raised more than $1.25 million on behalf of non-profit organizations.
“As you know, SDMBA promotes and encourages bicycling in San Diego County and works to make it a better place to ride,” said Piep van Heuven of BikeDenver. “Take it from us, Tour de Fat is the FUNniest FUNdraiser of the year, and event proceeds will help fund SDMBA programs and advocacy efforts that improve policy and sustainable trail infrastructure as well as enhance trail experiences for you and your bicycle.” SDMBA will need plenty of volunteers to help out this year. The more folks we have, the more money we'll raise. If you'd like to help, please drop us an email at social@sdmba.com. Also keep an eye on our Facebook page for ways you can help.

Bike Bell Program Expands to Elfin Forest |
|
The SDMBA Elfin Forest "Strike Crew" volunteer team has added a bear bell box at the base of The Way Up Trail at Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. Mountain bikers who currently do not ride with a bike bell are encouraged to loan one from the bike bell box when they ride at Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. The Way Up trail has a large volume of multi-use traffic and a bike bell let's other trail users hear you before they can see you. Not only will they appreciate the warning, you will find they often yield the trail to you in response. If you would like to help expand the bike bell program to a riding area near you, please click here. If you would like more information on volunteering with SDMBA at Elfin Forest, please contact matt@sdmba.com. |

SDMBA IS GROWING AND IT NEEDS YOU! |
|
Your local chapter of IMBA, the San Diego Mountain Bike Association, has been very successful promoting multi-use trails in SD County because of its dedicated volunteers and members like you.
SDMBA is now in an ideal position with San Diego County land managers to promote new projects like these:
- Mountain bike skills progression parks
- Request and build new connective single track multi-use trails
- Hold more social riding events and skills clinics
- Rewrite the countys trail guidelines- dirt roads are not trails!
What does this mean for you, the avid volunteer, the concerned mountain biker, or the occasional rider who wishes to help out?
