  • Support the approval and implementation of the Sycamore Canyon/Goodan Ranch Public Access Plan 
  • Anticipate and plan for the approval and implementation of the Mount Laguna Trails Restoration Plan by the Cleveland National Forest which includes almost 8 miles of new trails, meadow boardwalk project, reroutes & adopting non-system trails (including Wooded Hill) into the system
  • Implement planned trail projects this winter and early spring at:

  • Plan for MTB community fun at the Mount Laguna Trail Fest (OCTOBER 18-20, 2024)

On April Fools Day 1981, Scot Nicol hung up his shingle on a funky little shop a few miles east of Mendocino, California. On that day, Ibis was started without money and without a plan. Today they’re located in Santa Cruz with 40 (or so) people working at Ibis. Their 5 owners all work full-time for the company. Hans Heim is the CEO, Tom Morgan is president, Colin Hughes leads the engineering department, Roxy Lo is the designer, and Scot tries to stay out of the way.

Back in 2011, Ibis' 30th birthday, they decided to recap a few stories and highlights and take a trip down memory lane. They dusted the cobwebs off the old photo albums, went through the archives and tried to remember stuff long since forgotten. They compiled 25 stories, then the weather got good, and they traded typing for pedaling. There's still about 20 years of history left to write but this should get you started. The California Mountain Biking Coalition (CAMTB) leverages the collective voice of California mountain bikers and other human-powered trail riders to expand and enhance bike-friendly trails in California. Together, and with the support of our 35+ member organizations, we advocate for the larger mountain biking community by:

  • Providing a unifying voice for California mountain and gravel bikers across the state
  • Engaging Legislators and Major Land Managers
  • Tracking and influencing legislation and elections
  • Cultivating, connecting, and developing shared resources for bike-friendly trail stewards 
  • Facilitating a member-led Advisory Council, our MTB brain-trust
  • Amplifying the amazing land stewardship being undertaken by our member organizations
  • Building Cooperative Cross-Pollinated Community of MTB advocates in California


  • Advancing our Land Manager initiatives with Local, State, and Federal Agencies

  • CAMTB and its member organizations have two important organized efforts underway that will help our local trail organizations build productive relationships and more and better trails with the #1 and #4 largest land managers in the state.  

    Supporting bike-friendly trail stewardship organizations in California with organizational and leadership development resources.

    Tracking and influencing legislation that impacts cyclists, access to public lands, and funding for trails, as well as preserving and protecting outdoor spaces and places. For us, that means time spent in Sacramento meeting with lawmakers and garnering their support.  

    Running the CAMTB Teen Ambassador Program, which is educating and engaging the next generation of leaders in cycling advocacy. CAMTB is currently working with seventeen high school juniors, many of whom just joined us at Sea Otter Classic and Trails & Greenways
