Advocacy Meeting

  1. Welcome and Introductions (Susie Murphy) – lots of first-timers! Welcome!

  2. Questions or comments?

    1. Fun times had at Trail Fest. Well run event for first time. Can’t wait till next year. Over 50 volunteers. Oct 18-20, 2019. Already booked with forest service.

  3. Guests:

    1. Sean Bascom, Sprockids Program

      1. Program by Giant & Liv for kids. Holds regular youth mtn bike events in SD county. Skills clinics, after school and trail rides. Next clinic is Nov 10th at Ridgewood park in PQ. (Insert link here). Starting age guideline is 7 yrs, but if kids can ride bike off curb comfortably, they can join. Looking for volunteers, check facebook page Sprockids of San Diego for events. Beginning clinics are FREE for now.

    2. Betsy Miller and Liz Drake City of San Diego

      1. PMP (Parks Master Plan) efforts update. City is working on getting new plan. Been 56 years since last one. PMP is citywide policy document to shape the future of parks within the city. Can email Liz.drake@aecom.com for more info. Online survey still up till end of the year for feedback. Vision phase upcoming in the Spring of 2019. Stay tuned for more info on meetings for feedback during the vision phase. 3 year effort, 1 year in, should wrap up by winter 2020. Next step is to review and summarize public input and then create DRAFT plan. Betsy and Liz took questions from the audience. www.cityofsandiegoparksplan.com for comments

      2. Betsy – Master Plan update for Mission trails – all docs complete. EIR is being reviewed for comments, then will go to city attorney, then city council and then mayor for signature. No timeline has been given…yet on when all of this will be completed.

  4. Night riding update - Why is night riding illegal in all of SD city & county? Policy issue is that most parks and open spaces are open from sunrise to sunset due to lack of manned presence by the county and it being a liability issue. SDMBA will continue to research this issue with various jurisdictions.

  5. Lusardi/Black Mountain update (Matt Bartelt) – New trails are being proposed and in the works for Lusardi. Need to get HOA and possible city permits to add connector from Lusardi over to bottom of lilac trail. Probably won’t be available by arch ride, but hopefully will be ready for 2020. Black mtn – Black widow build starting in the next few weeks, but need water and is weather depending. Goal is to have done in 2 years, but shooting for 1 year. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities to help dig and get this trail built.

  6. Objection Comment Period Open until 11/19: Bitterroot National Forest WSA order banning mountain bikes – Please make comments so that we don’t lose over 100 miles of singletrack. Form letter for comments available on our website.

  7. Rancho Guejito (Ben) – Feb 23, 2019 Ride, wine tasting and dinner on private land. Registration to open in December.

  8. Sycamore Canyon (Ben) – Pad poured for new tool station. Station will be installed in 2 weeks. Trail surveys on various trails for re-routes in progress with rangers. Trails plan in progress, but no timeline on when complete.

  9. Orosco Ridge (Ben) – Setbacks on progress. Holy Jim fire and lost Chris as district ranger. New district ranger needs more details such as parking, usage and sanitation needs before work can begin. Still in progress.

  10. Otay Update (Ben & Susie) -   No Update.            

  11. Rockhouse/Mother Miguel Update (Jose) – No update.
